What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reduce and/or reshape the labia which is skin that cover the female clitoris and vaginal opening.

Due to time, pregnancies, genetic predisposition, or other issues, some women develop lengthened or oversized labia minora (the inner vaginal lips). Some women seeking the procedure experience discomfort including chafing or pain. This is particularly an issue when wearing form-fitting clothes, or riding a horse or bicycle. Labia enlargement also causes pain during intercourse. However, it is our professional experience that the most common complaint with a large labia is image. These women tend to be self-conscious regarding their appearance and this embarrassment can have an impact on their sexual relationships.

Fortunately, a decrease of excess vaginal tissue can be revised with a straightforward procedure called a labiaplasty. Our surgical technique minimizing the risk of sensation loss and reduces scarring. Most patients will experience an improvement in labial size and appearance immediately after surgery. We perform this surgical procedure in our State-licensed & Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery center. It can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia.

How long is the surgery, recovery, and when can I go back to work?

Labiaplasty takes approximately one- to two-and-a-half hours, including recovery. Post-surgery symptoms can include some mild discomfort and swelling that may last for up to two weeks.
